This blog has changed, because I have.
When I started writing here, it was a place for recovery, fitness, and personal development. It held everything I knew about rebuilding a life. I was still asking how to get better.
I hadn’t yet asked what I was getting better for. Or who I had been performing for all along.
What I know now is simpler… and harder.
For 23 years I worked as an ICU and Neuro ICU nurse. I learned what a body does under threat: it shuts down everything that isn’t needed to survive. I watched it happen in my patients. It took me much longer to recognize it in myself. The capable one. The one who held it together. The woman who built an entire identity around being needed, and called it strength.
When that identity came apart, I didn’t lose myself. I found out how much of me had been buried to keep me safe.
That is the work I do now. I’m an Identity Recalibration Strategist, and I walk alongside women entrepreneurs in midlife who are living what I lived.
Maybe you know exactly what to do in your business, and you still don’t do it. Maybe you’ve built something that looks successful from the outside and feels hollow from the inside. Maybe you share the safe version of your ideas and keep the real ones to yourself. Maybe you feel like a fraud in the business you built with your own two hands.
Love, none of that is a strategy problem.
It’s a survival-based identity: the version of you who learned – long before you had a business – that belonging had a price, and is still running the show long after the danger passed. What she leaves behind, I call Identity Debt.
You are not broken. You are not behind. You are outgrowing who you had to be.
This blog is where I write about that threshold. The nervous system and why visibility can feel like danger. The Little Dictator™️, the inner voice that keeps you small. The Sacred Middle, that disorienting stretch between the woman you were and the woman you’re returning to.
If you’re new here, start with these:
- Why Your Business Problems Are Actually an Identity Issue
- From ICU to Identity, my story
- The Fear Underneath the Fear
And if something in this post landed in your body, begin with the Identity Release Ritual. It’s free, and it’s the first thing I’d hand you if we were sitting across the table from each other.
Welcome. I’m glad you found your way here. And please remember…you did not fail – you outgrew it.
With truth, rebellion, + a seat beside you in the Sacred Middle,
Shannon
