Why so many brilliant midlife women entrepreneurs are asking the wrong question–and why mindset alone can’t answer it.
“What is wrong with me?”
If I could erase one question from the minds of women in midlife… that would be the one.
Because I hear it almost every day.
Women who are intelligent.
Accomplished.
Driven.
Capable.
Compassionate.
Women who have built careers.
Raised families.
Started businesses.
Led teams.
Held everyone else together.
And yet they’re silently, painfully asking themselves:
Why is this so hard for me?
Why can’t I move forward?
Why do I know what I want, but I still can’t seem to fully step into it?
Here’s what I want you to know before we go any further:
Nothing is wrong with you.
But something may no longer fit.
And there is a profound difference.
The World Is Finally Catching Up to the Conversation
Women are launching businesses at unprecedented rates.
Female entrepreneurship has grown dramatically over the past several years. More women than ever are choosing to build businesses that are leaner, more intentional, and aligned with the lives they actually want to live.
Many are building solo.
Many are using AI to create businesses that reflect their values rather than old definitions of success.
On the surface, it looks like entrepreneurship is changing.
I think something much deeper is happening.
Women aren’t simply building new businesses.
They’re trying to build lives that finally feel like their own.
But They’re Still Carrying the Same Identity
This is where I believe the conversation changes.
Because I watch women leave corporate careers…
Only to recreate corporate pressure inside their own businesses.
They leave performance culture…
Then perform spirituality.
They leave external expectations…
Then become imprisoned by internal ones.
They trade one identity for another.
But they never question the foundation underneath either one.
And eventually they find themselves asking:
“Why does freedom still feel so heavy?”
Because they changed the environment.
But not the identity that was navigating it.
Identity Debt
We’re trying to build businesses from identities we’ve outgrown.
Identity debt.
Here’s what I mean…
We understand financial debt.
We borrow from the future to survive today.
Then eventually…
We pay interest.
I think many women arrive in midlife carrying something similar.
Identity Debt.
Every time we abandoned our intuition to earn approval…
Every time we became who we thought we needed to be instead of who we actually were…
Every time we chose belonging over truth…
We borrowed against our future self.
Eventually…
The bill arrives.
Many women entrepreneurs think they’re burned out.
I think they’re carrying years of identity debt.
Every decision made from an identity that wasn’t truly ours compounds over time.
Midlife is often when the bill arrives.
I know this because I lived it.
I left one world convinced freedom would automatically feel lighter.
Instead, I recreated the same pressure with different language.
I changed careers before I changed identities.
And my nervous system simply rebuilt the same prison with prettier walls.
That realization changed everything.
An Observable Shift
I’ve spent decades studying neuroscience, trauma, behavioral psychology, spirituality, and Human Design.
Every Era asks something different from us.
Different disciplines describe this moment in different ways.
Some call it a cultural shift.
Some call it a nervous system awakening.
Some call it a spiritual awakening.
Some call it the transition into a new era of human consciousness.
And really…
The label matters less to me than the evidence.
Women everywhere are asking questions they weren’t asking ten years ago.
“Whose life am I living?”
“Why doesn’t success feel the way I thought it would?”
“Why do I feel called toward something I can’t explain?”
The Portal: Sacred Unraveling™ doesn’t prepare women for a trend.
It was built for a transition.
That’s different.
Much bigger.
Whether someone frames it spiritually, psychologically, or culturally doesn’t really matter…
Women don’t need another expert telling them who to become.
They need a guide who can help them remember who they’ve always been.
They need someone who understands what happens when an identity built for one world suddenly no longer works in another.
That is exactly what The Portal: Sacred Unraveling™ was built for.
Mindset Is Important. But It’s Not the Whole Story.
For years, the personal development world told us everything was mindset.
Be positive.
Think differently.
Believe bigger.
Visualize more.
Then the conversation shifted.
Now everything is about the nervous system.
And let me just say…
I am grateful for that evolution.
Because your nervous system matters.
Deeply.
But I believe we’re still stopping one layer too soon.
Your nervous system is not broken.
It is incredibly intelligent.
It has spent decades learning how to protect the identity you built to survive.
So when that identity begins to crack…
Your nervous system isn’t malfunctioning.
It’s doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Protect what it knows.
The deeper question is this:
What if the identity it’s protecting no longer belongs to you?
This Is Why Willpower Keeps Failing You
If you’ve ever thought:
“I know what I need to do. Why can’t I just do it?”
Please hear me.
This is not evidence that you’re lazy.
Or unmotivated.
Or incapable.
Or “just not cut out for this”.
It’s evidence that two versions of you are trying to coexist.
One version was built to survive.
She learned to:
- achieve
- please
- perform
- prove
- stay safe
- earn love
- avoid rejection
The other version…
Is trying to build a business from truth.
She wants:
- authenticity
- impact
- freedom
- spaciousness
- alignment
- meaningful success
Those two identities cannot lead at the same time.
One is built for survival.
The other is built for expansion.
And until you consciously recalibrate…
You’ll keep wondering why you feel pulled in two directions.
Strong Ground Matters. But Whose Ground Is It?
I’ve loved watching conversations about courageous leadership and standing on strong ground.
Strong ground is essential.
But there’s a question I don’t hear often enough:
Whose ground are you standing on?
Is it yours?
Or was it built from expectations that were never actually yours to carry?
If your foundation was poured using:
- obligation
- perfectionism
- external validation
- proving your worth
- being everything to everyone
- prioritizing everyone’s comfort except your own
Then, of course, it feels unstable.
It was never designed to support the woman you’re becoming.
The Real Threshold
This is why I don’t believe most midlife women need reinvention.
They need recalibration.
Reinvention says:
“Become someone new.”
Recalibration says:
“Remove everything that isn’t you.”
One adds.
The other reveals.
And that revelation can feel terrifying.
Because it often asks you to release identities that have protected you for decades.
👉🏼 The achiever.
👉🏼 The rescuer.
👉🏼 The peacekeeper.
👉🏼 The woman who made herself indispensable so she’d never be abandoned. (So guilty here 🫣)
We don’t release these identities because they’re bad.
We release them because they’ve completed their assignment.
Have you noticed…?
Whether you see this as psychology, sociology, spirituality, or simply the natural evolution of humanity…
Something is changing.
For hundreds of years, we built our lives around external authority.
Institutions.
Careers.
Titles.
Approval.
Rules.
Expectations.
We were taught that safety lived outside of us.
Follow the path.
Work hard.
Fit in.
Be responsible.
But have you noticed?
That formula doesn’t seem to be satisfying women anymore.
For generations…
The world rewarded women for adapting.
Now…
Whether because of cultural evolution…
Psychology…
Technology…
Spiritual awakening…
Or simply the natural progression of humanity…
Something else is being asked of us.
Not:
“Can you fit in?”
But:
“Can you trust yourself?”
For centuries,
Success belonged to the woman who could adapt to the system.
I believe the next era belongs to the woman who can adapt back to herself.
That’s our work.
The Portal Exists for the Woman Who Is Done Collecting Information
There are more podcasts.
More summits.
More courses.
More free content than ever before.
And I love that women are seeking growth.
But eventually, information reaches its limit.
There comes a moment when you don’t need another framework.
You need a guide.
A place where someone can look beyond your strategy…
Beyond your mindset…
Beyond your nervous system…
And help you understand the identity that has been secretly running the show all along.
That’s why I created The Portal: Sacred Unraveling™.
Not to teach women how to become someone else.
But to help them remember who they were before survival convinced them otherwise.
This is not about fixing.
It’s about recalibrating.
Identity first.
Everything else organizes around it.
An Open Invitation
If you’ve been shaming yourself, asking:
“Why is this still so hard?”
I would like to lovingly offer a different question.
What if it isn’t hard because you’re incapable?
What if it’s hard because you’re trying to build your future from an identity that has already served its purpose?
If that question landed somewhere deep inside you…
Maybe it’s because your soul already knows the answer.
And maybe…
It’s time to stop asking what’s wrong with you.
And start asking what’s ready to be released.
If that feels true…
The Portal: Sacred Unraveling™ is open.
Not because you need another strategy.
Because you deserve a place where your becoming is honored as deeply as your ambition.
Where the woman beneath the performance finally gets to build the business she came here to create.
Because nothing is wrong with you.
You’ve simply outgrown the identity that got you here.
Identity recalibration isn’t the end of your story.
It’s the beginning of your truth.
